Portugal - DAY 2

Tuesday was the day to visit Lamego. We visited Sanctuary Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. This famous church stands atop of Lamego. There is the monumental Baroque staircase (with 686 steps) that gives access to the sanctuary and is divided over several levels.

Presunteca is located in the sanctuary staircase, we tried wine, ham and cheese there.

We also visited the Cathedral of Lamego which was founded in 1129. It is a Gothic cathedral, retains the original square tower, but the rest of the architecture reflects the modifications made in the 16th and 18th centuries, including a Renaissance cloister with a dozen well-proportioned arches.

We had a walk to the Castle of Lamego. The breathtaking view over the Lamego was worth climbing through the old small streets of the ancient part of Lamego. There was also an impressive cistern there.

After lunch we visited The Lamego Museum. It is located in the historic center of the city of Lamego, in the former Episcopal Palace, a building rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century under the patronage of Bishop Manuel de Vasconcelos Pereira.

It was very interesting to visit Capuchinhas - In an old school outside the village of Campo Benfeito, four women surrounded by looms, linen and burel create unique and unique pieces, known and sold throughout the country.
